This project was about turning an unfinished room into a quiet parents’ retreat that felt comfortable, practical and properly finished. The clients wanted the space to feel relaxed and inviting, with a built-in fireplace, TV area, storage and a clean layout that made the room feel like its own private escape.
Outcome
This was a really rewarding room to bring together. The aim was to create a space that felt calm and comfortable, but still practical for everyday use. The custom fireplace wall gave the room a strong focal point, while the recessed TV, fluted cabinetry and clean finishes kept everything looking neat and intentional. Once the carpet, lighting and final details were in, the room completely changed — it now feels like a proper parents’ retreat and a space the clients can actually switch off in.

Our clients had recently purchased an older rental property that needed a practical update before welcoming new tenants. The kitchen and adjoining living areas were very dated, with timber wall panelling, ageing cabinetry and tired finishes throughout. Our clients wanted a straightforward renovation that would brighten the property, improve its functionality and provide durable finishes suited to everyday rental use.

The original rear wall contained a conventional sliding-door opening that limited access, natural light and the connection to the entertaining area outside. The existing opening was substantially widened, requiring careful demolition, temporary support and new structural work before the doors could be installed. The result is a brighter, more open living area with a flexible transition between indoors and outdoors.

A generous covered entertaining area and back deck. The key to the build was making sure the new addition felt like it had always been part of the property. We carefully matched the existing brickwork, roof tiles and architectural details, while creating a practical alfresco area with lighting, power and a wider connection between the home and backyard.
