A generous covered entertaining area and back deck. The key to the build was making sure the new addition felt like it had always been part of the property. We carefully matched the existing brickwork, roof tiles and architectural details, while creating a practical alfresco area with lighting, power and a wider connection between the home and backyard.
Project Brief
Create a covered outdoor living area that gave the family more space to relax and entertain, while still feeling like an original part of the home. The new structure was designed as a natural extension of the existing dwelling rather than a contrasting addition. This involved closely matching the original brickwork and roof tiles, maintaining the existing roof pitch and selecting external finishes that tied the new work seamlessly into the house.
The rear doorway was also widened to improve access and create a more open, alfresco-style connection between the internal living areas and the new deck. Integrated lighting and power made the space practical and comfortable to use throughout the day and into the evening.
Outcome
The finished addition has created a large, practical outdoor living area that can be enjoyed throughout the year. The warm timber decking gives the space a natural and welcoming feel, while the covered roof provides protection from the weather without closing off the backyard. The wider rear opening creates a much stronger connection between the indoor and outdoor areas, making the deck feel like an extension of the home rather than a separate structure.
Most importantly, the new addition blends seamlessly with the existing dwelling. The carefully matched bricks, roof tiles and proportions make the alfresco area feel original to the property, while still delivering the space, power, lighting and functionality expected from a modern outdoor entertaining area.
